Education Program

Everyday is an opportunity to learn something new

As a human race we act based off of the information we know.  By this theory the more we know the better our decisions should be.  Well to keep the idealism high Anura has made education one of our top priorities.  Not only is every moment an opportunity to learn it is also an opportunity to teach.
This spring semester I will be teaching a DeCal at UC Berkeley called topics in the environment and athletics, blending together sports with relative current events, a little bit of a hodge podge but it's awesome.

Outdoor Education, Athletics, Problem Solving, and Survival Skills Course
ESPM 198-001
M 12-2pm 240 Mulford

This DeCal will focus on outdoor education which includes teachings about the environment, wilderness skills, and current environmental events. The outdoor education aspect of this course will facilitate a space for students to become comfortable with their outdoor surroundings. Topics will include; GPS/compass navigation, map reading (topo), Edible plants, Native plants, animal awareness, leave no trace, rope tying, and packing. The aspect of Outdoor athletics will focus on fitness outside; outdoor sports, yoga, walking mountain yoga, and hiking. Students unable to participate in a physical activity will be able to make up that section of class with another experience outdoors which will be negotiated by the student and the facilitator.

Class Canceled on Monday March 30th.  There is class on April 6th.  There will be no homework due on April 6th.
Also the ppt from the last two lectures are too large to upload on this website so I am trying to find another way to make them available for you.

Week 5 Update- 3/2/09

Hello Class!
We had a great time at the botanical gardens, thank you everyone who came.  If you were unable to make it you will need to make up the time by going up to the botanical gardens and touring the California plants.  Assignment week 5 is due at the start of class on Monday March 2nd.  I am taking attendance by the journals so if you do not turn them in on time you do not get credit for being at class that day.  I am going to start labeling the assignments by the date they are due so that there is less confusion.
I have created a mid-semester evaluation.  To save paper I made it on survey monkey which also makes it even more anonymous since I am given typed results so please go to the link and fill out the evaluation you have until 3/10/09 to fill it out.    Do not worry, I will not be able to trace any of the results back to anyone.  It will really help me make this class better for you and I really look forward to your feedback.  The link is below.

It will be exciting we will get to see the Newts!

"
February, 2009: The recent rains have finally moved the newts to move, and they have started returning to the Japanese Pool in larger numbers.  There is a conspicuous increase in  mating activity and egg laying is just getting underway.
